Abstract

Background: Pregnancy loss occurs frequently in the women's reproductive lives. These situations have both immediate and long-term psychological consequences for parents; it also affects future children. Many of these women get pregnant again, frequently in the following year after the loss. During this new pregnancy, a mix of emotions takes place. Sometimes a new set of attitudes appears, making bonding with the new baby an arduous effort. Information is scarce in Spain about the impact of gestational loss on the next pregnancy.

Objective: To survey the experience of women and their partners during pregnancy after a gestational loss.

Methodology: The proposed project is a qualitative phenomenological research with an eidetic approach. For data collection, the unstructured in-depth interview, the semi-structured interview and focus groups will be used. The study population are women and their partners who, having had a gestational loss in the immediately previous pregnancy, give birth to a living child in public hospitals with obstetric care in Málaga (Spain). The sample will be obtained by convenience sampling in the postpartum hospitalization unit of the Regional University Hospital of Málaga. For data analysis, the approach of Taylor and Bodgan (discovery, coding and relativization) will be the method of choice.
