Attitude towards Scientific Research in Nursing students at an Ecuadorian University. Descriptive cross-sectional study

Introduction: Scientific research is a systematic process through which it is intended to generate new knowledge, while attitude is defined as the predisposition for or against an individual towards scientific research.
Objective: To analyze the attitude towards scientific research of nursing students at an Ecuadorian university.
Methods: Quantitative approach, non-experimental transversal design, descriptive scope. The population consisted of 163 students, through a non-probabilistic convenience sampling; a total sample of 151 students was obtained. The “Scale of attitude towards scientific research” was applied, which consists of 4 dimensions: Lack of willingness to help researchers, Negative attitude towards research, Positive attitude towards research and Positive attitude towards researchers.
Results: In the first dimension, 39.9% report disagreeing about not wanting to contribute to scientific research, believing that their opinions are not taken into account. In the second dimension, 45.7% disagree with the item scientific research is not interesting because it is unrealistic. In the third dimension, 49.0% agree that research is in their area of interest and 38.4% enjoy doing scientific research. In the fourth dimension, 51.7% agree that a scientist is an honest, knowledgeable, productive, frank and respectful person with other scientists.
Conclusions: Students have a positive attitude towards scientific research.
